Visiting the Centre

Guided tour

A visit to the Be’er Sheva ANZAC Memorial Centre is an immersive journey into one of the most significant events in the city’s history and into the story of the ANZAC soldiers who fought in the region during the First World War.

The guided tour progresses through a series of stations within the Centre. At each stage, visitors encounter another layer of the story: the historical background, the conditions of the campaign, the people who took part in it, and the events that led to the Battle of Be’er Sheva on 31 October 1917.

During the visit, guests move through exhibitions featuring artefacts, maps, photographs and testimonies that help them understand not only what happened during the battle, but also who the people behind the events were and what they experienced on their journey to Be’er Sheva.

The audiovisual presentation

One of the highlights of the visit is the Centre’s audiovisual presentation, which immerses visitors in the atmosphere of the period and the dramatic moments of the campaign. The presentation offers a vivid, accessible and moving way to experience the story, even for visitors with no prior knowledge of the battle.

Towards the end of the visit, visitors ascend to the balcony overlooking the nearby Beersheba War Cemetery. At this point, story, place and memory come together, giving the historical events a more tangible and immediate meaning.

The visitor experience

The Centre welcomes individual visitors, families, organised groups, schools, soldiers, senior citizens, delegations and tourists from Israel and around the world. The nature and emphasis of the guided tour can be adapted to the group, the age of the participants and the purpose of the visit.

A visit to the Centre can also be incorporated into a broader tour of Be’er Sheva’s cultural and heritage sites.

Abraham’s Well, Tzalmania, the Museums Complex, the Old Turkish Railway Station Compound, Gateway to the Negev and the Artists’ House.
